story from oakland. a grandmother was shot and killed by a stray bullet. ktvu's tara moriarty is in oakland right now with the latest on who she was and how this happened. tara? >> reporter: well, the woman was simply walking to the store, the way she's probably done countless times before. but last night she didn't make it. and now police at headquarters are trying to figure out exactly who is responsible. this violence erupted around 7:00 last night on the 9100 block of international boulevard, when gunfire erupted across the street from the victim. she was a 49-year-old grandmother walking with a relative when she was struck and killed. police did not identify a woman. but a long time friend said she was ramona foreman who cared for her mother. now, police have made no arrests. they are still trying to figure out what instigated the gunfire that left at least ten shellcationss on the sidewalk -- shell casings on the sidewalk and then after that, more gunfire. one person was injured and drove himself to the hospital. he was transferred to highland hospital. his condition is

on oakland road. police say at 3:00 a.m. this morning, they received a 911 call from someone saying a man had been stabbed. they arrived and were told by witnesses that during a party a fight broke out and a man was stabbed once in the stomach. he was rushed to the hospital but died. police are still trying to figure out what the argument was about. >> we don't have any motive for the homicide. but we are actively investigation. we are investigating the incident this morning. >> reporter: police tell us the victim was 30 years old. he's not been identified because they are trying to get in touch with his family. now, we were told that by -- by one of the guests that this was a graduation party but that guest wouldn't tell us much more than that. we do know there was about 20 to 30 people in attendance. the homicide unit has been out here on the scene gathering evidence. but police would still like to talk to witnesses who left the scene before they arrived. back out here live, you can see here's -- we're in a business park and the building is right next door where the latest homicide happened

is expected to visit in the coming days. well, in the east bay an oakland mother is recovering after being hit bay stray bullet while attending christmas church services. and she spoke exclusively with abc 7 news reporter nick smith from her hospital bed. >> i looked back and i saw a bullet coming at my son's head and i threw myself over my son. >> maria spoke to me from her hospital bed after a night at church took a violent turn and left her seriously he wounded. >> we were at church with my daughter and some people passed by shooting at the church. >> reporter: her pastor was telling the story about the birth of christ when out of no where he heard. >> boom, boom, boom, boom. i was scared. i said to people -- said go down. as fast as you can. >> reporter: at least four bullets pierced through the walls and directly in the path of parishonners. she moved quickly but her instincts to shield her children put her in the direct path of one of of the bullets. >> i got shot in the lung and it injured my intestine and my stomach. >> reporter: there were more than 100 parishonners attending a christ

no need for any umbrellas. but a jacket probably a good idea. 41 right now in concord, 45 in oakland, 48 degrees in san francisco. so it's because of this high pressure that is what's keeping us so dry for the next 24 hours or so. but we are watching this low and that's going to bring us some rain. looks like probably friday afternoon-ish is when we're probably going to get hit with some wet weather. in the meantime this afternoon's highs a lot of low to mid-50s across the bay area. and yeah, so not going to warm up much by later on this afternoon and then a chance of rain returns as soon as tomorrow. so we'll show you that seven- day forecast coming up. in the meantime, traffic-wise, we have a new situation developing on the great highway. we just got word from the police department that the southbound great highway is shut down between lincoln way and sloat boulevard. with all that rain and the storm yesterday, of course, causing some drifting sand, so that's not unusual to see those kind of closures. also. an overturn injury accident southbound 680 approaching sunol boulevard off-ramp

in the santa clara valley that's when it was really coming down. you can see by the oakland area, by skyline boulevard you have some light showers there. some showers down around san leandro we head out toward beach front boulevard near belmont. you see showers there. how about roson avenue getting heavy activity. at least toward campbell. but as we worked our way toward evergreen and san felipe road you see significant rainfall on these bands. you touch on here an we show you rainfall bands at .2 an hour. that's significant rain and you head down toward the corridor and gilroy. they were getting hammered for a time today this evening and now they're getting a little bit of a break. but the rain came down hot and heavy there. the santa cruz mountains they're getting a lot of rain and it's coming down fast. as it stands right now, the showers are starting to die down, the worse is over. it was a fast moving system and we're fortunate it is coming down fast. it could have caused bigger problems but it migrated through rapidly. i'm going to be talking about showers still lingering, we're going
